You can’t contest for President under PDP in 2027 – Bode George tells Atiku

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should not contest for the presidency under the PDP in 2027.

George emphasized that the party’s constitution and the current political climate necessitate a southern candidate for the next presidential election. He pointed out that Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, should wait until 2031 if he wishes to run again.

George highlighted that by 2027, Atiku would be 81 years old and suggested that it is time for younger generations to take the lead, drawing a parallel to U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside for Kamala Harris.

He stressed that the PDP must adhere to its zoning and rotation principles to ensure justice, fairness, and equity within the party. George also noted that the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, had already served two terms, making it imperative for the next candidate to come from the South.
