Watford and Nigerian Forward Part Ways by Mutual Agreement
Watford have announced on their official website that Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu has left the club following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
Kalu, who joined Watford from Bordeaux in January 2022, found limited playing opportunities at Vicarage Road. His time with the Hornets was impacted by frequent injuries and a dip in form, which led to him being loaned to Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport for the 2023-2024 season.
During his spell at Watford, Kalu made thirteen appearances across all competitions, including four in the Premier League, but failed to register any goals or assists. However, while on loan at Lausanne-Sport, he contributed to five goals in twenty-one appearances.
The former AS Trencin and KAA Gent player was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He has earned sixteen caps for the Super Eagles, though his last appearance came as a substitute in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in October 2021.
Now 27, Kalu is eligible to join a new club outside of the transfer window due to his contract termination on August 30.
