UAE Lifts 21-Month Visa Ban on Nigerians

Tinubu-and-UAE-president

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted its 21-month visa ban on Nigerian citizens. This decision, effective immediately, follows extensive negotiations between the two nations aimed at mending strained relations and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The visa ban, which was imposed in October 2021, stemmed from a series of diplomatic and security concerns. The UAE cited issues related to illegal immigration, fraudulent visa applications, and security threats as primary reasons for the ban. The situation was further exacerbated by a series of high-profile incidents involving Nigerian nationals in the UAE, which strained diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The lifting of the ban is the result of “mutually beneficial negotiations” between the Nigerian government and UAE authorities. Nigerian officials have been working tirelessly to address the concerns raised by the UAE, implementing stricter measures to curb illegal immigration and enhance security protocols.

“Nigerian passport holders can now travel to the UAE without any hindrance,” said Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation. “This development is a testament to the strong diplomatic efforts and the commitment of both nations to resolve their differences amicably.”

Under the new visa regulations, Nigerian passport holders will need to undergo digital verification to obtain UAE visas. This process includes submitting identity documents and travel history, ensuring a more secure and streamlined application process.

The resumption of visa services is expected to boost trade and tourism between the two countries, which had been significantly affected by the ban. Nigerian businesses and tourists can now look forward to renewed opportunities in the UAE, fostering stronger economic ties and cultural exchange.

“We are pleased to welcome Nigerian citizens back to the UAE,” said Dr. Fahad Obaid Al Taffaq, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria. “This marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth and secure travel experience for all.”

This development marks a new chapter in Nigeria-UAE relations, promising enhanced cooperation and opportunities for both nations.
