“Two Nigerian Players Rank Among Europe’s 50 Most Fouled, Excluding Osimhen, Lookman, and Boniface”

Two Nigerian Players Among Europe’s 50 Most Fouled in Major Leagues

Two Nigerian footballers have earned spots among the top 50 most fouled players in Europe’s top leagues this season, despite the absence of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, who are often considered Nigeria’s leading attacking talents.

Getafe’s Christantus Uche and Augsburg’s Frank Onyeka are the Nigerian players making an impact in this regard, according to a report by Eurofootball Rumours.

Uche and Onyeka Lead the Charge for Nigeria

Uche, a 21-year-old midfielder, has made a significant impression for Getafe in La Liga this season, becoming the most fouled Nigerian player in Europe’s top leagues. Having joined Getafe from Ceuta for a modest €500,000 in the previous year, Uche has been fouled 49 times in 24 league appearances.

While Uche has drawn numerous fouls, he has not been without fault, committing several fouls himself and accumulating five yellow cards. Despite the challenges he faces, his contributions in attack have been notable, including three goals, one of which was the opener in Getafe’s recent 2-1 victory over Girona.

Uche ranks 12th on the list, just outside the top 10, with high-profile players such as Roma’s Paulo Dybala and Torino’s Samuele Ricci ahead of him.

Onyeka, currently on loan at Augsburg from Brentford, follows closely behind as the second most fouled Nigerian player, having been fouled 43 times. This places him joint-26th on the list, alongside Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Hellas Verona’s Tomás Suslov.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been a key player for Augsburg in the Bundesliga, featuring in 19 matches (18 starts) and accumulating 1,604 minutes of playing time this season.

Other Notable Nigerian-Descended Players

Several other players of Nigerian descent also feature in the top 50 most fouled list. Manchester United’s Danish-Nigerian full-back Patrick Dorgu ranks joint-3rd with 55 fouls, alongside Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush and Bologna’s Dan Ndoye.

Germany’s Jamal Musiala, who has Nigerian heritage, occupies 39th place with 40 fouls suffered, sharing the spot with Franco-Nigerian winger Michael Olise, also of Bayern Munich.

Guimarães Tops the List

At the top of the list, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães has been the most fouled player in Europe’s top five leagues this season, having suffered 82 fouls. Roma’s Manu Koné follows in second place with 58 fouls.

While Osimhen, Lookman, and Boniface often steal the spotlight for their goal-scoring performances, it is Uche and Onyeka who are enduring the most physical attention from Europe’s defenders this season.
