Tinubu Offers Ganduje Ambassadorial Appointment Amidst Corruption Trial
President Bola Tinubu has reportedly extended an ambassadorial appointment to Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to DAILY NIGERIAN, Tinubu specifically suggested that Ganduje could choose “any African country” for this diplomatic role.
Ganduje, who assumed the APC chairmanship on August 3, 2023, following Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation, is currently facing corruption charges in Kano. The offer is seen as an attempt to provide an exit from his ongoing legal troubles. However, Ganduje expressed reluctance, asserting that the charges against him were baseless and that he would prevail in court.
While Tinubu initially favored posting Ganduje as the Nigerian ambassador to Chad (given his prior role as the executive secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission), other sources suggest that Ganduje may opt for Morocco if the situation escalates.
In related news, Ganduje has been informed of the President’s approval for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and a mid-term non-elective national convention. Despite the offer, Ganduje’s spokesman remains unaware of the ambassadorial posting, emphasizing the approved dates for the party’s meetings.
