Thierry Henry officially stepped down as France U-21 team coach

French legend Thierry Henry has officially resigned as coach of the France U-21 team after a disappointing Olympic Games.

Henry took over the reins of the France U-21 team just over a year ago, signing a two-year contract with the French Football Federation (FFF) to serve as the youth team coach until the ‘summer of 2025. However, the icon Arsenal and France. he has now revealed that he will be resigning from his post with immediate effect. The 47-year-old has been selected to lead his U-23 team this summer for the Paris Olympics and Henry’s decision to step down from the role comes just over a week after leading the French Olympic football team to a silver medal losing the home final in Paris to Spain.

The Arsenal and Barcelona icon has now revealed he is stepping down for ‘personal reasons’. In a statement released on Monday afternoon, Henry said: “I want to thank the FFF and President Philippe Diallo for offering me this incredible opportunity. Winning the silver medal at the Olympics for my country will remain one of the most great pride of my life. I am very grateful to the Federation, the players, the staff and the supporters for allowing me to live a magical experience.”
Speaking to the media after Henry’s decision.

FFF president Diallo said:

Obviously we regret this decision because Thierry was able to achieve the goals set for him by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics , 40 years after the Los Angeles Olympics medal.
“Following him throughout this campaign I was able to discover his great professionalism, his toughness and his love for the blue shirt, we wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career.

The French legend has not shown what the future holds for him and it remains to be seen if he will return to the role of coach. Henry previously worked as a manager at Arsenal and has also had roles with MLS CF Montreal and Ligue 1 club Monaco.
