Thierry Henry Condemns Unsportsmanlike Conduct After France’s Win
Thierry Henry was unhappy with France Under-23’s 1-0 win over Argentina in an Olympic qualifier on Friday night.
A fight broke out between players from both teams after the match and the atmosphere was tense.
Felipe Matata’s sixth-minute header sealed the victory. Henry’s team will now face Egypt in the semi-finals. Tensions are rising ahead of the tournament after members of Argentina’s Copa America-winning team were filmed chanting racist slogans and using anti-French language.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has live-streamed a video of what his clubmate, French defender Wesley Fofana, described as “unbridled racism” on Instagram. Before and during the match, French fans were complaining and criticising the Argentine team at the New Stade Bordeaux. It all led to an ugly clash throughout the game, which resulted in Enzo Milo being shown a red card.
Henry said after the match:
“I don’t agree with what happened at the end of the game. My player (Milo) got a red card and I don’t accept it, this shouldn’t happen. Chapter “I have no control over the outcome. I went to say hello to the coach and when I turned around something happened. “We won but in the end I’m not happy with the result for my players.”
