Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has called on Nigeria to be ready for a tough challenge as they face Libya in the matchday four Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier on October 15.

The match will be held at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, and it holds significant importance for both teams. Nigeria will look to solidify their lead in Group D, while Libya will be eager to turn the tide in their favor.

Simon acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming fixture but reassured fans that the Super Eagles are mentally prepared to face the hostile environment expected from Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.

“They gave us a glimpse of what to expect in Libya, but we’re mentally ready for their hostility. We know they’ll come out strong, aiming for a win,” Simon said. “This is good for us, and we’ll need to remain focused and play with a neutral mindset. We are fully prepared.”

Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over Libya in the first leg, with Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring a crucial late goal just four minutes before the final whistle, saving the Super Eagles from a potential draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Reflecting on the hard-fought win, Simon, who plays his club football for Nantes in France, admitted it was a tense affair.

“It was a nervy match. We knew it would be difficult, but we were ready for it. There are no more easy games at this level,” he stated.

Despite Libya’s defensive approach, Nigeria managed to secure the crucial win, with Simon emphasizing the importance of the result.

“Ultimately, the most important thing was getting the victory we needed, and fortunately, no players got injured.”

Nigeria currently leads Group D with seven points, and a win in Benghazi could secure their qualification for the 2025 AFCON with two games remaining.
