Raith Rovers have parted ways with coach Ian Murray after just one match of the 2024-25 season.
Murray guided the club to a second-place finish in the Scottish Championship last season, earning a place in the play-offs.
They won the semi-final against Partick Thistle after a penalty shoot-out, but lost to Ross County in the final. Ross County also have a better record than Murray’s side in the Scottish League Cup, when this season begins in July.
This was followed by a 1-0 defeat in the opening championship match against Airdrieonians, after which the coach was sacked. Raith Rovers Football Club can confirm that they have parted company with first-team coach Ian Murray, a club statement said. The board would like to thank Ian for his contribution since joining the club in May 2022.
Despite finishing second last season, results and form since the start of the year have not been as expected. As a result, the board of directors have decided to terminate the manager’s contract. The process to appoint a new manager has now begun. Meanwhile, Colin Cameron and John Potter will take over first-team duties until a successor is found.
Raith finished seventh in Murray’s first season before climbing to second in his second. A new ownership group took over in May 2023, but their hopes of promotion in their first season were not realised.
“We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of a majority stake in the club and look forward to an exciting journey towards a more prosperous future at every level of this great club,” said chief executive Dean Mckenzie. “We have a board of dynamic and motivated professionals who are committed to energising the club at every level, leveraging and enriching our loyal fan base, and bringing success, pride and happiness to the local community.”
