Protest: Nigeria’s Youth Council Gives Tinubu Conditions
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has presented President Bola Tinubu with eight key demands to address the economic difficulties currently affecting Nigerians. These demands come in the wake of the planned nationwide protest scheduled to be held from August 1 to 10.
At a press conference held in Abuja, Vice President (North East) of the NYCN, Bishop Douglas Kanatapwa, spoke on behalf of the organization’s leadership. He highlighted the following eight critical items that the youth council is urging President Tinubu to address:
1. Transparency and Accountability: The NYCN calls for greater transparency in government actions and accountability for economic decisions.
2. Healthcare Access: The council emphasizes the need for improved access to healthcare services for all Nigerians.
3. Education and Skill Development: The NYCN advocates for measures to enhance education and skill development opportunities.
4. Agricultural Support: The council seeks support for the agricultural sector to boost food security and create employment.
5. Youth Intervention Program: The NYCN proposes targeted programs to address youth unemployment and underemployment.
6. Economic Relief Measures: The council urges immediate action to alleviate economic hardships faced by citizens.
7. National Youth Conference: The NYCN calls for the convening of a national youth conference to engage in dialogue and propose solutions.
8. Meeting with National Security Adviser (NSA): The council emphasizes the importance of addressing security challenges.
The NYCN recognizes President Tinubu’s efforts to improve the national economy but highlights that these changes have significantly increased the cost of living, particularly affecting the youth. The planned hunger protests have gained strong backing from various youth leaders, and the NYCN aims to play a crucial role in finding solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
In response to the NYCN’s demands, President Tinubu is urged to take immediate action to alleviate hunger and address the pressing economic issues facing the nation. The call for a national youth conference underscores the importance of engaging young voices in shaping policies and finding sustainable solutions.
