Paul Scholes names the team he thinks will beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season
The former Manchester United midfielder has given his verdict on the Premier League title race. Paul Scholes has revealed who he thinks will win the Premier League title this season.
The tenacious midfielder won the Premier League 11 times with Manchester United and gave his first predictions on who he thinks will win the crown in the 2024/25 season.
Scholes believes only one team is capable of ending Manchester City’s dominance after Pep Guardiola’s side won a fourth consecutive league title last season, something never before done in English football’s elite. “I think the Premier League favorites will be the same as last year,” Scholes began his prediction of the new season. “I think City will be the favourites, followed by Arsenal.
“I have said many times that I expect Arsenal to be the team to win the title this year.
“They have progressed in recent years, especially with Mikel Arteta. I think this year is the time when they are ready to win. I know it will not be easy, there will be a lot of competition because we know that the first seven or eight teams in England are good teams, but this year I think Arsenal will be the team that breaks the City cycle.”
Arteta and his team have quietly gone about their business, having only brought in a new face to the club so far this summer.
Riccardo Calafiori has arrived from Bologna and the defender will help provide additional cover at the back for the Gunners, who boast the best backline in the division this season.
Elsewhere, David Raya’s loan from Brentford has also been made permanent. “We know the demands of the championship and the competition we face,” began Arteta, as he looked ahead to the new season. “So all we do is find ways to improve and see where there is room for improvement. “This pain [from last season] is still there and I think it should stay there, but after analyzing the whole season with all the staff, the team did a lot and maybe in any other context, we would have won the Premier League. . and this is a big step. But this is not enough.
