Former NBA guard and international basketball legend Rudy Fernandez announces retirement

Former NBA guard and international basketball legend Rudy Fernandez has announced his retirement ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After spending just four seasons in the NBA, last playing for the Denver Nuggets in 2012, Fernandez has had a storied international career.

Fernandez’s list of accomplishments is long, ranging from individual accolades to team success in the Euroleague, World Cup and Olympics. The 39-year-old guard retweeted a message from his former teammate and many others in the basketball world, stating that this is the end of his storied basketball career. Drafted 24th overall by the Phoenix Suns in 2007, Fernandez was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played the first three seasons of his NBA career.

Fernandez was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, who shipped him to the Denver Nuggets, where he played the final season of his NBA career.
A second-team All-Rookie in 2009, Fernandez had a strong start to his NBA career, but would go on to have a historic career outside the NBA.
A legend in Spain, Fernandez received countless messages from all over the basketball world praising him not only for his accomplishments, but for what he meant to the game.
