NNPC Discovers and Confiscates 63 Illegal Refineries in Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Delta States

In a significant development, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has intensified its fight against oil theft, leading to the discovery and seizure of 63 illegal refineries within a single week. The national oil company’s efforts have yielded results, shedding light on the pervasive issue of oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

NNPC’s operations spanned multiple states, including Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Delta. These regions have been hotspots for illegal refining activities.

Various incident sources reported a total of 177 cases related to oil theft during the specified week. These sources included Tantita Security Services, Shell Petroleum Development Company, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), Maton Engineering Company, NNPC 18 Operating Ltd, NNPC Command and Control Centre, and government security agencies.

NNPC successfully recovered 19 illegal pipeline connections across different locations in Bayelsa and Rivers states.

A vandalized barricaded oil wellhead was discovered in Taylor Creek, Bayelsa state. Stolen crude was found in an oil reservoir in Tombia III, IV, and Alesa, Rivers state.

Vehicular arrests were made in communities across Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states. NNPC confiscated 15 wooden boats transporting stolen crude in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

The incidents occurred in the deep blue water, western region, central region, and eastern region. During this period, NNPC apprehended 16 suspects involved in oil theft.
