Legendary Nigerian Singer Onyeka Onwenu Passes Away After Lagos Performance
Renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu tragically passed away on Tuesday shortly after delivering a heartfelt performance at a birthday party in Lagos. The iconic music figure, who had just taken the stage at a private function, collapsed suddenly after her performance.
Onwenu, 72, fell ill during the event and was immediately rushed to Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, where she was later pronounced dead. The exact cause of her death remains unconfirmed. According to sources close to the family, Onwenu was participating in a buddy’s birthday event when she performed. Shortly after returning to her seat, she suddenly collapsed.
A source, speaking on condition of privacy, said, “It is extremely sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals tonight. After performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Healthcare facility however could not make it. Onwenu was a multi-talented artist whose career spanned over four years. She was not just a vocalist but likewise an actress, journalist, and politician.
