Kevin Martins Shines on Senior Debut for Monza in Copa Italia

Kevin Martins, son of former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins, made a significant impact during his senior debut for Monza, contributing an assist in their 3-1 Copa Italia win over Brescia.

Obafemi Martins is celebrated as one of Africa’s premier strikers, with a storied career that includes stints at renowned clubs such as Inter Milan, Newcastle United, and Wolfsburg. He excelled in European football before transitioning to a career in the United States. At the international level, he scored 18 goals in 42 appearances for Nigeria from 2004 to 2015.

Though the elder Martins retired from professional football in 2021, his son Kevin is now following in his footsteps. Last December, Kevin signed his first professional contract with Monza, subsequently advancing through the club’s youth ranks.

The 19-year-old made his debut in a Copa Italia match against Brescia, where he started as a winger and delivered a commendable performance, playing the full match as Monza secured a 3-1 victory. This milestone marks a promising step in Kevin’s career, opening the door for potential opportunities in Serie A.

While Obafemi represented Nigeria, Kevin has chosen to align with Italy, although he retains the option to switch allegiances to Nigeria since he has not yet appeared for Italy’s senior team.
