“Jay-Jay Okocha Will Always Be My Greatest of All Time – Ex-Arsenal Player”
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has acknowledged that his greatest footballing idol of all time is Jay-Jay Okocha, a legendary figure in the history of the Super Eagles.
Currently playing for Fulham, Iwobi has consistently expressed his admiration for Okocha, who also happens to be his uncle. Having grown up watching Okocha dominate both African and European football with his remarkable dribbling skills, Iwobi credits him as a significant influence on his own career.
Iwobi’s Admiration for Okocha
In a recent interview on the Is This Seat Taken podcast, Iwobi spoke fondly of Okocha, affirming that he remains his ultimate footballing inspiration. “In the sport? Forever my uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha. I have to shout him out all the time, on and off the field,” he stated.
Okocha, widely recognized as one of Africa’s most talented footballers, gained fame for his exceptional dribbling, vision, and creativity on the pitch. His memorable performances with Nigeria’s national team and clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton Wanderers have left an indelible mark on football history.
Okocha’s Influence on Iwobi
Coming from a football-oriented family, Iwobi had the unique opportunity to learn from Okocha, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s victory at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and their notable run in the 1996 Olympic Games.
Iwobi credits Okocha for shaping his playing style and guiding his football journey. “I used to watch his matches and training sessions. He’s the one who really taught me how to express myself on the pitch,” Iwobi shared. “Off the pitch, he’s always advising me on how to be professional, manage my finances, stay grounded, and remain humble. He will always be my idol,” added Iwobi, who previously played for Arsenal.
