Israel ‘narrowed down’ its list of targets in Iran
Israel may be poised to launch a retaliatory strike against Iran as early as this weekend, with potential targets narrowed to Tehran’s military and energy infrastructure, according to unnamed US and Israeli officials cited by NBC News.
While no final decision has been made, it remains unclear whether Israel will target Iran’s nuclear facilities or pursue other actions. So far, US officials believe West Jerusalem will not take such extreme measures. This tension follows a missile barrage from Iran on October 1, reportedly in response to the killings of leaders from Hamas, Hezbollah, and a top IRGC general.
Iran claimed its attack was aimed at military facilities, with no Israeli civilian casualties reported. The only confirmed death was a Palestinian man allegedly killed by missile debris. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant promised a “deadly, pinpoint accurate, and surprising” response.
While some Israeli officials call for devastating strikes, including on nuclear facilities, the US reportedly prefers a more measured approach to avoid a broader regional conflict. Iran has vowed to respond proportionately if attacked, with plans to retaliate against Israeli oil refineries if its own oil infrastructure is targeted.
Tehran has warned West Jerusalem to avoid disproportionate actions, especially those that could harm civilians, hinting it might reconsider its nuclear doctrine if civilian casualties occur.
