How joining AC Milan ‘destroyed’ my marriage – Morata
Spanish striker Álvaro Morata has revealed that his recent move to AC Milan contributed to the end of his marriage to ex-wife Alice Campello.
The 31-year-old completed a €13 million move to Milan a month ago, just days after winning Euro 2024 with Spain, signing a four-year deal at the San Siro.
The couple, who married in Venice in 2017, announced their separation on August 12 in an Instagram post.
Morata, known for his spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus and Atlético Madrid, said his ex-wife preferred to stay in Spain and was unwilling to move.
He also hit back at rumors of infidelity, insisting he had remained faithful throughout their seven years together. “I’m devastated, but I swear I never cheated on her. She’s the most important woman in my life. I’m tired of people saying I was unfaithful to Alice. I didn’t even participate in the national party to avoid such rumors ,since then, I have avoided speaking in public out of respect for him and to avoid further speculation,” he told De Corazón. Morata added: “Alice wanted to stay in Spain and no longer wanted to move. Despite our differences of opinion, we maintain a strong relationship for the sake of our four children,we do not regret anything.”
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Campello cited postpartum depression after the birth of her fourth child and the instability of frequent movements as factors in her split. “We are two young people, we have both been immature in handling certain situations, we have many children, moments of instability associated with being from one place to another.
My postpartum depression took its toll and so did hers, which prevented us from handling certain situations between us,” she explained. Campello also rejected accusations of infidelity by Morata.
“We love each other endlessly, love doesn’t stop overnight, we respect each other a lot and nothing will change. That’s what we both need now, but I know Alvaro would kill for me,” he added.
The couple has three children – twins Alessandro and Leonardo (born 2018), Edoardo (born 2020) – and a daughter, Bella (born 2023).
