Former Manchester United Star Patrice Evra Given Suspended Prison Sentence For Neglecting Family Responsibilities

Former Manchester United and France defender Patrice Evra was sentenced to 12 months in prison on Friday and now has a bigger problem than failing to pay nearly $1 million, Le Parisien reports.

Evra was found guilty of domestic neglect after his wife Sandra Evra broke up with her current partner. They divorced in 2020, but their divorce has not been finalized yet. They have two children.

Evra’s sentence was suspended for two years and he was ordered to pay his wife’s legal fees and “justice compensation” of 4,000 euros in addition to unpaid wages.

Evra and his lawyers apologise for the court’s decision. Evra’s career spanned two decades and the Frenchman made 379 appearances for Manchester United from 2005 to 2014.

He was a key member of the 2007/08 Premier League and Champions League teams, winning seven trophies at Old Trafford and Juventus. . Since retiring, Evra has worked as a consultant for ITV and Amazon, completed his training at Manchester United and joined the investment group in the takeover of Portuguese club CF Estrela da Amadora. This is not the first time Evra has run into trouble in the French courts.

In 2023, he was found guilty and fined for making homophobic remarks during a brawl at the Parc des Princes following United’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

He has since published a letter supporting the acceptance of gay athletes and paid court-ordered money to the Anti-Gay Movement.
