“Ex-PSG Star Confident in Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup Qualification, Claims Nigeria Has Superior Players”

Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Currently ranked fifth in Group C, the Super Eagles have accumulated three points from four matches, out of a possible 12. To keep their World Cup hopes alive, they must secure victories in their upcoming matches against group leaders Rwanda and bottom-ranked Zimbabwe in March.

In an interview with Brila Media, the former Standard Liege player emphasized that Nigeria’s squad possesses the talent necessary to qualify for the World Cup. “Player-for-player, Nigeria has superior talent compared to the other teams in our World Cup group, and I believe we will qualify for next year’s tournament,” Okpara stated.

Although Nigeria has had a challenging start to the qualifiers, the 18-time capped ex-international remains hopeful that the Super Eagles will rise to the occasion and secure their place in the tournament.

The Super Eagles’ upcoming fixtures include a match against Rwanda on March 21, 2025, at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, followed by a home game against Zimbabwe on March 25, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

This will also mark the debut of Malian coach Eric Chelle, who was recently appointed head coach of the Nigerian national team. Chelle, known for his previous success with the Mali national team, will look to build on that experience and lead the Super Eagles to victory in these crucial qualifiers.
