Ex-Gubernatorial Aspirant Babalola Resigns from PDP Amid Suspension Allegations
Dr. Peter Babalola, the Chairman of the College of Education, Ila-Orangun, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In a resignation letter dated August 27, 2024, and addressed to the PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, Babalola cited personal values and political direction as the primary reasons for his departure.
He expressed his decision came after careful reflection and consideration of his goals and the political path he wishes to pursue. Babalola wished the PDP continued success and hoped for the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
This resignation follows the PDP’s announcement of Babalola’s suspension from the party over alleged anti-party activities. The suspension letter, also dated August 27, 2024, was signed by seventeen party executives from Ward 7 in the Irewole local government area of Osun State.
The letter detailed Babalola’s alleged habitual engagements in activities that could disrepute the party and noted his absence from ward and local government meetings over the past two years. Consequently, the PDP executives decided to suspend Babalola from the party, effective immediately.
Babalola, who served as Chief of Staff during Oyinlola’s administration in Osun State, was appointed Chairman of the College of Education, Ila-Orangun, by Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2023.
