Former Borussia Dortmund star Sunday Oliseh has lauded Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman for his historic nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Lookman’s recognition makes him the eighth Nigerian to receive the prestigious nomination, highlighting his outstanding performances at both club and international levels over the past season.

Oliseh, a former captain and coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, expressed his admiration for Lookman on social media. “Congratulations to Ademola Lookman for joining this exclusive list of Nigerians who have earned global acclaim! Lookman’s standout displays, including a remarkable hat trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 Europa League final, have placed him firmly in the global spotlight. His contributions on the international stage have also been impressive, with three goals and one assist helping Nigeria reach the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Lookman’s Ballon d’Or nomination further solidifies his status as a leading contender for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, who placed eighth in the 2023 Ballon d’Or rankings. Osimhen became the seventh Nigerian to receive the honor, while Oliseh was the sixth, earning his place in 1998.
