Court Affirms Julius Abure as Labour Party Chairman

The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party. The decision, delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite on October 8, 2024, mandates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Abure’s leadership.

This ruling comes after a period of internal party disputes and legal battles. The court validated the March 2024 Nnewi convention, which had established the current national leadership of the Labour Party. The Abure-led faction had faced challenges, including accusations of illegitimacy from within the party and from INEC.

The court’s decision confirms the legitimacy of the Abure-led executive committee, dismissing claims that the March 2024 convention was unconstitutional.

INEC is now required to acknowledge and work with the Abure-led leadership, ensuring that the Labour Party’s operations are not hindered by internal conflicts.

The ruling aims to bring stability and unity within the Labour Party, allowing it to focus on its political agenda and upcoming elections.

The Labour Party has expressed relief and optimism following the court’s decision, hoping it will pave the way for a more cohesive and effective party structure.
