In a significant development for the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her running mate: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The selection marks a swift ascent for Walz, who has transitioned from relative obscurity to a prominent role in the Democratic Party’s campaign against former President Donald Trump and the MAGA agenda.

Before entering politics, Walz served as an educator and later represented Minnesota in the U.S.  He also has a military background, having served in the Army National Guard.

Harris and Walz are set to appear together in their first joint rally in Philadelphia later today.

Harris’s nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate makes her the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major-party ticket.

As news of the selection spread, residents in St. Paul, Minnesota, gathered outside Walz’s home to witness this historic moment. Neighbors expressed excitement and praised Harris’s choice, emphasizing Walz’s genuine character, commitment to people’s interests, and resilience.

The campaign trail is heating up, with Harris planning to participate in a September 10 debate on ABC, even if Trump declines to join. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, is holding events in the same cities and states as his opponents.
