Atiku Abubakar Fires Back at Bode George Over Tribalism Remark

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has strongly responded to the recent attack by Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). George’s comments insinuated that Nigeria would have faced dire consequences if Atiku had been elected president in 2023.

In a statement issued by Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, the former Vice President condemned George’s tribalistic stance. Atiku highlighted the irony of George, a Commodore, embracing tribalism while undermining the very principles of the military—an institution esteemed for its unity. He expressed disappointment that such a figure exists within the ranks of the armed forces.

Atiku also pointed out George’s selective criticism. While George had previously threatened to go into exile if Bola Tinubu became president, he remained silent about the current administration. Atiku questioned whether George’s reticence was due to his regional bias. The former Vice President emphasized that his presidency would have ushered in an era of prosperity, driven by a cabinet chosen solely on merit, regardless of background or beliefs. Such leadership, Atiku asserted, would have steered clear of bigotry and nepotism, in stark contrast to the present administration’s policies.
