APC Urges EFCC to Investigate Alleged Drug Supply Contract in Kano Local Governments
In a press statement issued by the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the party has called for a thorough investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The focus of the investigation is an alleged scandal involving spending purportedly for a medical supply contract to 44 local governments in the state.
The APC has demanded that the EFCC freeze all accounts belonging to these local governments, expressing concern over Governor Abba Yusuf’s lack of control and accountability. The admission by Governor Yusuf that he was not aware of the alleged financial irregularities raises questions about his leadership capacity. The APC insists that the state and local government councils must cease further plundering of public funds under the guise of joint projects.
This scandal is the latest in a series of financial recklessness cases involving officials of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) government in Kano State. The directive given to the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the matter has been met with skepticism, as the chairman of the commission, MuhyiMagaji Rimin Gado, is perceived as partisan and compromised.
The situation remains tense as citizens await further developments in this unfolding investigation.
