AFN reacts to rumors that Favor Ofili is moving to Nigeria

No one can stop her if she decides to change her allegiance to another country, she is fast becoming an out of control athlete for us.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) says it has athletes capable of filling the gap if American sprinter Favor Ofili decides to switch allegiance from Nigeria to another country, Guardian NG reports.
Relations between Ofili and the AFN have been strained during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games that have just ended, after the disappearance of his name from the list presented by the federation for the women’s 100 meters race.
While the AFN continues to be innocent, saying that it entered Ofili for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay during the games, the athlete maintains that the federation should be held responsible. An online media report indicated that Ofili was considering switching allegiance to another country, like hammer thrower and 2024 Olympic silver medalist Annette Nneka Echikunwoke after a similar administrative oversight prevented her from to compete for the Nigerian team at the Tokyo Olympics.

An AFN official said  the federation will not stop Ofili from carrying out his alleged plan, saying: “If Ofili is serious about switching his allegiance from Nigeria to another country, she can be difficult for the AFN to prevent or removed from any athletic competition for a period of three years.

This means that Ofili will not participate in any athletic competition until the end of 2027.
Ofili is quickly becoming an out-of-control athlete for the AFN. There are many things that we have tried to keep away from the public regarding Ofili.

At the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA in 2022, Ofili refused to stand with other Nigerian athletes in our camp who had athletes taller than her like Tobi Amusan, Ese Mist and others, she moved into a hotel with her trainer and we tolerated it.
