2027: Wike’s Loyalists Move Against Fubara’s Second-Term Bid

In a surprising turn of events, loyalists of former Governor Nyesom Wike have begun mobilizing against the re-election bid of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This development comes amid growing tensions between the two political figures, who were once close allies.

Sources close to the situation reveal that Wike’s loyalists are dissatisfied with Fubara’s administration, accusing him of deviating from the policies and principles established during Wike’s tenure. They argue that Fubara has failed to adhere to the presidential 8-point peace accord, which they claim was designed to ensure stability and continuity in governancep.

Former Special Adviser on Media to Wike, Opunabo Inkor Tariah, has publicly expressed confidence in Fubara’s ability to secure a second term, citing his “mass-oriented projects” across Rivers State’s 23 local government areas. Tariah emphasized that no one, including Wike, can halt Fubara’s re-election campaign, stating, “Power comes from God. Wike governed for eight years, and Rotimi Amaechi also governed for eight years. It’s only fair that Fubara serves two terms”.

Despite these assurances, the rift between Wike and Fubara appears to be widening. Wike has openly criticized Fubara, labeling him as “lawless” and accusing him of disregarding the peace accord. In response, Tariah has defended Fubara, arguing that the accord was skewed in favor of Wike’s interests and that Fubara should not be dictated to.
